Most households have many cleaning chemicals, pesticides, rodent or insect baits stored in the house. An apartment building or a rental may have a storage shed where some of the common pool chemicals may be stored. These chemicals are a hazard for children and pose a huge health risk.

Property Managers, Landlords and Tenants can take these 5 simple steps to save children from common environmental hazards around the house.

1.  Keep pool chemicals and pesticides on the property under lock and key

2. All household chemicals inside the house should be stored out of children’s reach preferably in a locked cabinet

3. Remove children, pets and their toys away from the area before applying any pesticides or household chemicals

4. While applying chemicals or pesticides if you get interrupted or take a break, make sure to reclose the container and remove it from children’s reach

5. Never transfer and store pesticides or chemicals in containers that children associate with food or drink like soda bottles
