Allstate has seen a 27 percent increase in number of homeowners switching from homeowner insurance to landlord policies. State Farm Insurance is also seeing an increase in switches to landlord insurance.

Landlord insurance policy is similar to having a business insurance and it should protect you form any damage that could occur to the property or if somebody gets hurt on the property.

Landlord policies don’t include any protection against flooding or offer compensation for damage to renter property. And depending on the how extensive the coverage is, it might also exclude damage from sewer backup, earthquake, vandalism and theft.

Landlord Insurance also covers loss of rent if there is damage to building and it is not in a livable condition. This protects a landlord in case it takes a long time to repair a building.
