Landlords have issued a warning and some advice regarding property flooding. The weather has recently become rather sporadic with sudden downpours followed by bright sunshine. There have even been some days where all four seasons have been rolled into one unpredictable day’s weather. Just Landlords have noticed that many parts of the UK have, as a result, suffered from flooding.
The Managing Director of Just Landlords, Richard Berridge, has been explaining that even minor flooding can be extremely damaging for a property: “Flood damage can be very costly and can lead to further damage later down the line. For example, if your kitchen floor is flooded it will undoubtedly soak through a number of units which can lead to decay and mould. So from a small, relatively minor amount of flooding, disastrous and costly knock-on effects can be caused.”
Mr Berridge went on to add: “Any flood preventing measures you can take will be beneficial, particularly in those areas that are most likely to be affected by extreme rain and flooding.”
In the unfortunate event of flooding, Just Landlords have suggested that it will be a good idea to take care when clearing up afterwards. They have stated that waterproof clothing should be worn along with gloves and wellington boots. Even a face mask is advisable. Furthermore, they have suggested that it will be a good idea to have the electricity supply switched off at the mains by a professional and that a pump and generator can be used to remove water from the property. For landlords it will be essential to ensure that a property is safe again before allowing it to be inhabited whilst tenants should immediately advise their landlord.
