Research shows that people indoors spend 90% of the time and so greater health risks exist from indoor pollutants. The young, the elderly and the chronically ill spend most of their time indoors and they are exposed to more indoor air pollutants. These pollutants have considerably bad effect on the sick especially the ones suffering from respiratory or cardiovascular diseases.
Most houses have inadequate ventilation and so the indoor air pollutants concentrations continue increasing over time as compared to them being carried outdoors. During winter, keeping very high temperature or having high humidity level in residential real estate properties can cause increase in indoor pollutants.
The most common source of indoor air pollution is caused by oil, gas, kerosene, coal, wood, tobacco products and furnishings made out of pressed wood products. The other products are household cleaning and maintenance, personal care, central heating, cooling systems, humidification devices and stored chemicals such as pesticides. Some pollutants like furnishings and household products like air fresheners release pollutants continuously.
Property Managers, Landlords and tenants can improve indoor air quality and decrease the amount of air pollutants is reduce the various sources listed above. The other way to make sure that residential houses are ventilated so that outdoor air enters the home and reduces the amount of pollutants
