According to National Association for College Admission, 62% of colleges and universities reported increase in admission applications for 2008-2009 school years. However public schools and universities can house 25% of the US student population and rest of the students, find alternate housing. Therefore, student housing provides a great investment opportunity for real estate investors and landlords.

The key factors to success for real estate investors, landlords and property managers are:

1. Determine current and future plans of the university.

2. Does university have space to add dorms?

3. Does university plan to increase or decrease enrollment?

4. Will university change any requirements that freshmen or sophomore live on campus?

Student housing has been stable and has not been impacted by real estate bust except for tightening financing. It continues to be a good investment opportunity and many real estate investors are taking advantage of it.
