Did you know that census workers cannot be denied access?

2010 is the year of the census and Census Bureau’s goal is to do a complete and accurate count of the nation’s population. The data collected through census determines how $400 billion dollars are distributed per year in federal funding. One of the shortest census forms in history, the 2010 census form asks 10 questions and takes 10 minutes to complete.

Beginning in May 2010, census workers will visit households that do not return the forms to take a count in person. Census workers cannot be denied access by property managers, property management companies, housing associations and landlords. They can make multiple attempts to collect data and may return to contact renter or tenant to collect the census data. If they are not able to get the data, they can ask the property, manager, property management company, landlord or association manager to provide the resident or tenant occupancy data.
